General Deductible
The General Deductible is specified in the Deductibles/Maximums
Sheet. You
should only make an entry if the health plan model you are using in your scenario
has a General Deductible requirement, and you don’t want to use the default value provided in your model (meaning you want to
customize your entry based on a specific health plan you are using in your
scenario).
A General Deductible requirement involves a set annual dollar threshold that
all covered allowable charges are applied against, and insurance coverage by the
plan does not begin to apply until the covered allowable charges exceed this
amount. Every plan year, the General Deductible requirement is reset, so that
application of charges from the previous year are typically not carried forward
into the new year. The General Deductible involves application of allowable
charges for all types of services, in contrast with a Hospital
Deductible, where
only covered hospital charges are applied. Of course, a plan can have both a
General Deductible and a Hospital Deductible requirement.
